NICOLA RAKHI STORY
I am a London born self-taught designer of all that I choose to piece together. Thus far, after graduating from Fine Art at De Montfort University in Leicester, I began a progressive journey for studying garment pattern making and construction, textile design and creating illustrations for textile print.
During a trip to India to explore my heritage and celebrate my elder brother’s wedding, I found myself drawn to the traditional Kurta Pyjama. I was besotted by the artistry and detailing of textile print and silhouette, rich in both elegance and comfort. This sparked the idea to create Nicola Rakhi, Rakhi being my middle name but also in Hindu the meaning of a festival celebrating the sacred and divine bond between family or loved ones. During the festival a thread bracelet is exchanged between loved ones to honour this bond and provide protection.
Nicola Rakhi designs pyjamas and ready-to-wear garments for luxuriating in the comfort of your home or hitting the town for a night out. As we like to say home is where the heart is, so for these silky ensemble’s storytelling through illustrative prints in the light of the meaning of Rakhi makes them all that more special. Printed designs originate from paintings created in our London studio.
